Hexagram 10 · Lu (Treading Carefully)

Tian Ze Lu (Heaven over Lake)

Trigrams

Upper: Qian / Lower: Dui

Element

Metal

Nature

Prudent Conduct

Judgment

Treading on the tiger's tail, it does not bite; success.

Image

Heaven above, the lake below: Lu; the noble person thus distinguishes above and below, and settles the aspirations of the people. — Heaven is above while the lake is below, symbolizing each in its proper place; the noble person should clearly distinguish the high from the low, and settle the people's hearts and minds.

Interpretation

The Lu hexagram symbolizes cautious conduct, like treading on a tiger's tail without being bitten. In career matters, one is in a perilous situation and must act cautiously, treating others with propriety to ensure safety; in relationships, one must carefully maintain the bond; in decision-making, one should be as cautious as walking on thin ice, but following propriety will ultimately lead to success.
